Chelsea news: Abramovich told to make Maurizio Sarri decision | Football | Sport

That’s the belief of Don Hutchison.

The Blues boss admitted himself that his long-term future at Stamford Bridge is uncertain after a 6-0 thrashing away at Manchester City in the Premier League at the weekend.

Chelsea fell 4-0 to Bournemouth in their previous top-flight away game and those results, plus off-field issues, have cast uncertainty over the security of his position.

The Italian was only appointed last summer after a lengthy battle with Napoli to agree terms to take him to London, even though he left the Serie A side in May.

Yet things have not gone totally to plan for Sarri however and while he has a Carabao Cup final with City to look forward to later this month, there are question marks over his tactics and whether he will turn things around.

Abramovich appointed Sarri to help deliver a more attacking brand of football after the defensive-minded approaches of Mourinho and Conte.

But even with a more adventurous style, the 60-year-old does not seem to see eye-to-eye with all of his squad and the player power at the club famously led to the demise of both of Sarri’s predecessors.

However, Hutchison thinks the Russian oligarch must stick with the former Napoli coach and even totally uproot the negative influences within his squad if necessary.

“You wouldn’t be shocked,” Hutchison told Premier League Productions when quizzed about the possibility of Chelsea sacking Sarri.

“I don’t think you’d be shocked if another big defeat comes Sarri’s way and he’s relieved of his duties.

“I hope he doesn’t. People like Jose Mourinho, people like Antonio Conte and people like Sarri all can’t be wrong.

“There’s problems inside that dressing room, there has been for a number of years.

“We’re talking about three unbelievably good managers. At some point Abramovich has got a decision to make.

“He’s got 42 players out on loan playing here, there and everywhere.

“He’s got a very talented squad but it might just need a shake up where he looks at some of the big names and says, ‘I’m going to have to make a decision.’

“That’s Abramovich saying to Sarri, ‘You’re in no danger of losing your job. You’ve got from now until the end of the season to try and win us a cup and get into the top four. If you don’t, we’re going to back you in the summer and we’re going to go again.’

“I think it would be a bad move, even though Chelsea are on the slide at the moment, to sack Sarri.”

Chelsea will hope to build some confidence with a Europa League last 32 first leg clash with Malmo in Sweden this Thursday (8pm) before they face high-flying Manchester United in the FA Cup next Monday.
