BT Sport viewers are saying the same thing about Liverpool FC great Steve McManaman’s commentary for Man Utd vs PSG

Things have been looking so rosy for Manchester United since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrived at Old Trafford to replace Jose Mourinho.

Ten wins from the Norwegian’s first 11 games since his return to the club have fans feelings buoyant to the point that supporters are even hopeful they can beat Paris Saint-Germain and book a spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Injuries to key players such as Edinson Cavani and Neymar coupled with United ’s strong form this year means there was a sense of optimism heading into tonight’s game but for some viewers at home, that energy was sucked out of the room when they turned on their TVs and heard Steve McManaman on commentary.

The former Liverpool and Real Madrid winger was chosen to help oversee the events for Tuesday night’s game on BT Sport.

But a comment from McManaman in the 37th minute left some viewers at home scratching their heads.

Angel di Maria was flagged for offside after being set through on goal but McManaman questioned why it took so long for the linesman to raise his flag.

Commentator Darren Fletcher then explained that with the new VAR rules, linesmen were instructed to delay their decisions in order to allow play to continue.

McManaman then tried to flip it around as if he had understood the situation, saying: “We understand it, it’s the person who’s just walked into the stadium late who doesn’t understand the rules of VAR yet.”

Viewers at home were not impressed.
