‘Better than Mitrovic’ What Newcastle United fans really think of Salomon Rondon

Salomon Rondon was back in this part of the world on Monday evening as Newcastle United visited Molineux.

The Magpies, with target man Rondon leading the line against Wolverhampton Wanderers, took the lead through West Brom January transfer target Isaac Hayden.

Wolves, though, levelled matters in the dying seconds when Willy Boly headed home from close range.

Venezuelan Rondon, who has another year to run on his Albion contract when he returns this summer, has already indicated how he’d be happy to stay in the North East on a permanent basis.

Rondon has seven goals this season for Newcastle and has been Rafa Benitez’s go to forward.

With plenty of Toon supporters in attendance on Monday evening, we took the opportunity to go out and meet them before kick off – and to get their thoughts on Rondon’s loan spell on Tyneside.

WHAT NEWCASTLE FANS THINK OF RONDON

Dan Bell: West Brom can keep Gayle if we get Rondon in exchange

Steve McKenna: Providing West Brom stay in the championship next season we should be able to keep Rondon

Andrew McVittie: If all goes well, a Rondon-Murphy swap with West Brom would suit me fine in the summer. Here’s hoping

Jamie : Am glad Gayle is playing well for West Brom, it makes Rondon affordable

Cowabi : Oh Rondòn. We are going to miss you when you inevitably go back to West Brom

Andy : Rondon over mitro debate! Rondon for me every day of the week.  Holds the ball up better, better team player, Bring players it play more,.  And I think rondon will score more goals for us than he did for West brom

Mr Snekky: Rondon is such a good player. Shame he belongs to West brom

Joe : Wonder what Rondon would cost us on a permanent deal with Gayle going the other way. Surely more then affordable even for Ashley

WHAT RAFA SAID

“Everybody can see he is doing well. It is too early to talk about that [a possible permanent move].

“He just needs to focus on trying to do well and score goals. In general, he is doing well. He could score more goals but he could play worse. He is playing well, he is scoring goals, he is giving others the opportunity to go forward, he is doing a lot of good things.

“We will see. The main thing that he has to do is score goals and keep playing well. That is the best thing he can do if he wants to have a big name in the market.

“Always, it’s a problem or a risk to sign anyone in the Premier League, because it’s very demanding. “But when they have been here in the Premier League, and after they come here and they perform, it’s an easy decision.”

WHAT RONDON SAID

“Every year you have a goal of doing better than in previous years.

“Despite the injury I had (early this season), I have been doing quite well and I hope to reach double figures.

“Would I like to stay? Yes, of course. I am very grateful for the effort the club made to bring me in and for the confidence of the coach and the welcome of the fans. For all these reasons I’d like to continue, but we’ll see what happens.

“I feel really good. I’m really happy here for what we’ve achieved collectively. That’s the important thing.

“We have been in good form and have moved away from the relegation zone. I have done my job by contributing with goals.

“It’s quite a big contrast (from Albion). The difference in styles between one team and the other is reflected in the play. A striker likes to have chances and to get crosses into the area.”
