‘I’m just not in his plans’ Here’s what Birmingham City loanee has to say

Birmingham City’s David Stockdale has said that ‘anything is a consideration’ as he looks to secure a move away from St Andrews.

Stockdale joined League One side Coventry City on an emergency loan last week, after their first choice keeper was ruled out with a shoulder inury.

The 33-year-old has worked with the Coventry boss, Mark Robins before, spending two months on loan at Rotherham back in 2008 and he is clearly an admirer of the player, whom he said was “outstanding” on his debut, helping his new side to a 1-0 win at Rochdale at the weekend.

Robins said afterwards, “when I got the chance to bring him in I jumped at it. If you have got an injury to Lee Burge there is no better goalkeeper to bring in on a temporary basis than Stocky.”

Stockdale has found himself out of favour at St Andrews and Garry Monk has instructed him to train with the Under-18s.

He has another year left on his contract with Blues but whether they would be willing to get him off the wage bill and leave for nothing remains to be seen.

Asked if the experienced former Fulham and Brighton keeper would come into his thoughts in the summer, Robins said: “I’ll take it one stage at a time.

“I think we might be limited with the finances.

“He’s fourth choice there so we will have to wait and see.”

Stockdale’s wages would be a major issue unless he was willing to take a huge cut and drop down a level to League One.

The player, however, wouldn’t rule out a switch to Coventry, in theory at least.

Asked if it would be a consideration or whether it would be too much of a drop down, he said: “Anything is a consideration at the moment.

“Being politically correct in this situation I can’t speak for what Birmingham will do but we’ll cross that bridge when it comes.”

“I’m just not in the manager’s plans, which is football.

“Hopefully something comes along in the summer.

“I’ve got another year on my contract. I’d like to fight for my place but sometimes that’s not possible.”

Blues first choice keeper Lee Camp was the hero for Monk’s side on Saturday after he saved an injury time penalty to earn his side all three points against QPR.
