Man United don’t need to buy ‘superstar’ players to succeed-Solskjaer

Man United don’t need to spend big

Under Jose Mourinho Manchester United were struggling for form and looked very unlikely to qualify for the Champions League this season.

As a result, it was likely United would have had to spend big money in the summer to improve upon their squad.

United have already done so in previous seasons, spending somewhere in the region of £89m on Paul Pogba and over £70m on Romelu Lukaku.

Despite this, Solskjaer believes United no longer need to splash the cash on big names to succeed:

“It has to be the right one and one who fits. The personality has to fit with the team.

“It is not just buy a superstar and that will fix things and suddenly we go from challenging to being top four and be champions.

“If you look at the players, the age of them, they’re young and they’ve got plenty of development in them. But we also need some experienced players to stay and step up and really become the leaders.” As quoted by AS.

United’s impressive run under Solskjaer

Given United’s great start under Solskjaer, it is easy to see why he does not think United need to sign any superstars.

Prior to their game with Fulham United had won their first 10 games across all competitions under Solskjaer.

This put United to 5th in the league and just two points from 4th place Chelsea.

Man United then took on Fulham on Saturday’s early kick-off.

Paul Pogba gave United the lead early on with an excellent finish.

Martial made it 2-0 shortly after before Pogba added his second from the spot.
