Chelsea transfer news: Maurizio Sarri identifies the January signing Blues HAVE to make | Football | Sport
That much was evident despite scraping past Newcastle 2-1 on Saturday with Pedro and Willian netting for the Blues.
Jorginho struggled in the centre of the park with Sarri having limited options on the bench to replace him.
Zenit St Petersburg star Leandro Paredes has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, as has Cagliari ace Nicola Barella.
And Sarri confirmed he needs another midfielder but has admitted he’s unsure whether he will get one.
“Today Jorginho was in trouble and on the bench there wasn’t a player for that position so I need a player for that position,” Sarri said.
“I have no idea [if we will sign a replacement].
“The club knows very well my opinion. I need a player there so it depends on the club’s decision.
“I cannot do any more.”
Despite Sarri not knowing whether Chelsea will make any signings, Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol believes the Blues are close to announcing at least one deal.
“Maurizio Sarri basically made it clear Fabregas was not going to play for Chelsea again,” Solhekol told Sky Sports News.
“He said mentally, he’d already left and his mind was already in the south of France. I think it just made sense for Chelsea to do the deal now.
“I think they are pretty close to one or two deals for replacement midfielders anyway.
“This will speed up getting those deals across the line.
“As far as Fabregas himself is concerned, it’s a great move for him.
“Chelsea have this policy when you’re over 30, they only give you a one-year deal.
“It makes sense for everybody – a happy ending for Cesc Fabregas and Chelsea.”
