Nuno explains why Man City boss Pep Guardiola is one of the greatest managers of all-time
Pep Guardiola’s record as a manager speaks for itself but Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo has explained why he is one of the greatest the game has ever seen.
Wolves visit the Etihad on Monday night and Nuno insists his opposite number has forced other managers to develop and improve due to his high standards.
“Yes, no doubt, but how far back do you go? Rinus Michels? Sacchi? There are a lot,” he said.
“When someone brings something new to the game – because everybody knows the game – I think we as managers must develop our ideas to help and develop the game.
“Pep is in that small circle of persons.
“He’s changed his game. By doing that, he was able to change some mentalities of others, whether it be Tiki-taka or whatever.”
City have scored 16 goals in cup games against Rotherham and Burton Albion over the past week and will look to continue that fine form against Wolves on Monday night.
There is plenty of mutual respect between Nuno and Guardiola and the former is happy to learn from the City boss.
“He is fantastic He has achieved so many things. His idea of the game is amazing, we all admire that,” said Nuno.
“Each manager has his own idea, but (there are) no doubts about it, that we respect each other very much.
“If we can look and see good things that we can use to our advantage, we’ll do so.”
