LaLiga Santander: De Tomas: I didn’t want to sit on the Real Madrid bench all season
LaLiga Santander Left on his own accord
Julen Lopetegui made it clear to the player that he wanted him involved at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, but De Tomas wanted to play as much as possible so moved back to Vallecas, where he had been the previous season as Rayo secured promotion from the Segunda Division.
“I could have been at Real Madrid [this season], he said to COPE.
“Julen Lopetegui wanted me to stay but I am a competitive person and I didn’t want to spend the year sitting on the bench.
“I would have had some chances but competing like I am now is what really helps you to grow and that’s why I wanted to be here.”
De Tomas has eight LaLiga Santander goals in 16 games, which is two more than Madrid’s leading goalscorer Karim Benzema.
