Harvey Barnes departure prompts West Brom fans to send a message to Guochuan Lai
West Bromwich Albion’s promotion hopes have been dealt a major blow after Leicester City opted to recall Harvey Barnes from his loan spell.
The Foxes have been mulling over whether to recall the talented 21-year-old from his season-long loan at The Hawthorns and they have now activated the clause, as first reported by The Telegraph.
Barnes has been Albion’s star player during the first half of the season with nine goals and six assists in 26 Championship matches.
He will now return to Leicester and link up with Claude Puel’s first team squad.
The news comes as a bitter blow to Darren Moore and the Baggies faithful, who have taken Barnes to their hearts.
How the fans reacted
Stuart Hunt: Well that’s what happens when he isn’t your player. Let’s hope club have contingency plans but knowing the Albion they won’t have.
Mike Hughes: Any obviously over the hill 35 year old players available on a three month contract? Asking for a friend.
Dylan Ashmore: Joe Lolley from Forest would be good to replace Barnes.
Doody: I’d go for Joe Lolley to replace Barnes. Class winger and with Forest manager up in the air we may be able to nick him. If we don’t replace Barnes in this window, we won’t go up.
Matt Rowley: Get your cheque book out Lai… ball’s in your court now
John: Announce Barnes replacement otherwise we are screwed.
Christopher Bray: We should have left him there. No point coming to us for the last half of a dead rubber season with nothing to play for and not play every game. Shortsighted.
Craig: No idea why it’s taken us so long.
Ron Jambo: Puel better bloody play him.
