Manchester City handed this big boost for Wolves clash
Manchester City are expected to have Sergio Aguero available for the trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night.
The striker has missed the last two matches, cup ties against Rotherham United and Burton Albion, with an illness but should be back in contention.
Aguero is City’s top scorer with 14 goals this season and struck the opener against Liverpool in last appearance on January 3.
Gabriel Jesus has started in his absence and scored five goals, including putting four past Burton in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg midweek.
And Pep Guardiola hinted at his pre-match press conference that Aguero is likely to return to the squad.
Indeed City are likely to be close to full strength for the clash at the Etihad.
Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva both featured in the 9-0 thumping of Burton after some setbacks over the Christmas period and look to be back to full fitness.
The midfield pair have missed matches this season but are hopeful of starting against Wolves.
Vincent Kompany picked up a knock during the 2-1 win over Liverpool and has been recovering.
“Vincent is recovering well after the game against Liverpool,” said Guardiola. “The rest are fit.”
Benjamin Mendy and Claudio Bravo, who are both dealing with long-term injuries, should be the only absentees.
Wing-back Mendy is expected to return in February while Bravo will return at a later date.
“(Wolves are) strong, physical, good at set pieces, strong on the counter attack,” added Guardiola.
“When you are tired in the last minutes, they put on new players. They defend deep, switch play, and control many areas.”
