FC Barcelona: Valverde is still searching for the perfect rotation
FC Barcelona The test at Levante was not a success
It remains to be seen what Ernesto Valverde took from last year’s Champions League elimination against Roma, but the Barcelona coach used the first leg of their Copa del Rey tie with Levante as an opportunity to rest players.
The coach made significant changes in every position, but the performance on the night was poor and the result would have been worse were it not for a Philippe Coutinho penalty.
Jasper Cillessen‘s inclusion was the change that surprised the least as he took his Copa del Rey place and again put in a credible performance, showing that he is wasted on the Barcelona bench.
In defence, Valverde was more experimental as he started with Juan Miranda, Jeison Murillo and Chumi against one of LaLiga Santander‘s best attacks.
The core of the team saw Sergio Busquets link up with Arturo Vidal and Philippe Coutinho, while Carles Alena didn’t have his best night.
Up front, the changes weren’t very exciting either and with Munir El Haddadi in exile, Ousmane Dembele lined up as a striker with Malcom accompanying him in attack, but the Brazilian disappointed again.
