Chelsea targeting ONE priority deal this month, confident agreement will be reached
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is in desperate need for a striker in the January window as he looks to add firepower to his squad.
The Italian is yet to be convinced by Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata with both failing to live up to expectations.
The latter already looks set to leave the club on loan after holding talks with Sevilla but the Blues can’t afford to offload him without securing his replacement.
However, a deal is yet to be finalised with talks ongoing.
The likes of Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson and PSG’s Edinson Cavani have also been linked but Sarri has made it clear he wants a reunion with former Napoli forward Higuain.
Despite complications over negotiations with Chelsea needing approval from Milan and Juve, the reports claims Chelsea believe they will successfully sign the 30-year-old this month with agreements reached between all parties.
ESPN pundit and former Blues midfielder Craig Burle believes Blues owner Roman Abramovich will not be afraid to break the bank to sign Higuain in a bid to boost their chances of finishing in the top four.
“Well it’s not a gamble with him,” Burley said.
“Financially it’s got implications [of being a gamble] but it’s not a gamble on the field.
“They’ve got to weigh up the financial implications with the potential of not getting in the top four.
“He’s playing in a pretty average Serie A side that’s been up and down, down more often than up.
“He’d get way more chances in the Premier League at Chelsea.
“I don’t think Abramovich would mind throwing the money at it if he thinks he’s going to get in the top four.
“With United pushing and Arsenal having a decent season, when you’ve got nobody putting the ball in the back of the net, that’s a problem. Big problem.”
Chelsea sit fourth in the Premier League table ahead of their clash with Newcastle tomorrow night (5.30pm).
