The managerial link West Brom fans will hate – all the Baggies news
Welcome to BirminghamLive’s round-up of all the news from The Hawthorns.
Starting with an unwelcome rumour.
Keeping up with the Joneses
West Brom’s Graeme Jones is under consideration for Luton’s vacancy, according to reports.
The Mirror (17:54) claim the League One promotion challengers fancy Darren Moore’s assistant as an option to replace Nathan Jones – who took over at Stoke City.
Jones has been at Albion since the summer after the Baggies chose to pair his coaching experience with the fine work done by first time boss Moore.
Together they have steered the Baggies to fourth in the Championship – which has clearly not gone unnoticed.
Jones has a stellar reputation in coaching circles having been given a chance by Roberto Martinez at Swansea.
Since then he has followed the Spaniard to Wigan, Everton and most recently the Belgium national team.
Jones was Martinez’s assistant as the Belgians reached the semi finals at Russia 2018.
Albion have arranged a warm weather training camp next week.
Darren Moore will take a full party of players and staff away following Saturday’s Championship clash with Norwich.
The head coach is taking advantage of the re-scheduled TV clash at Bolton, which goes ahead on Monday, January 21 and kicks off what the club describe as ‘ an intense run of fixtures throughout the remainder of January and February’.
Baggies have booked a five-day training trip to Dubai which Moore believes can be hugely beneficial to his players.
The full story here.
Moore will defer a decision on loaning out his most valued youngsters until after West Brom’s FA Cup fourth-round tie, BirminghamLive understands.
Rekeem Harper, Sam Field and Jonathan Leko all started the third-round win over Wigan as Moore rotated his squad after a busy festive period.
The boss is open to loaning out all three this month to enable them to gain valuable first-team experience with their opportunities limited so far this season.
It’s thought there has been interest in each player, who are all products of Albion’s highly-respected academy.
But Moore is set to delay his decision until after the January 26 clash at Premier League Brighton, where all three will likely feature.
The Baggies have been linked with the signing of David Meyler from Reading.
The 29-year-old only moved from Hull City last summer but has made just five appearances this campaign.
Meyler has made 27 appearances for Ireland and plays in central midfield.
