Man Utd News: Mauricio Pochettino might not take Reds job – Dom Fifield
That’s the view of the Guardian’s Dominic Fifield who isn’t convinced the Tottenham boss would leave his project at the new White Hart Lane.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in caretaker charge at United and has admitted he wants to stay beyond the end of the season when his contract ends.
He told the Football Writers podcast: “The fact that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has started so well, albeit against sub-standard opposition, has taken a bit of the focus away from Pochettino and his future.
“I’m still not convinced that he would go there to be honest.
“I suspect there might be bigger overtures that he finds harder to turn down from Spain when he does end up leaving Tottenham Hotspur.
“Real Madrid? Yeah, I think so.
“Then it becomes a choice as to whether he goes to a club that fires managers after one or two season or whether he can go to Old Trafford and build, maybe, a long-term project.”
Pochettino caused a stir on Monday when he challenged Spurs to start backing him in the transfer market if they want to win some silverware, but also admitted he may like to stay for 20 years.
He explained: “I hope, or I wish to be here 20 years, and decide to leave or to finish my career here.
“I am so focused here, and want to help the club to achieve what the club want to be in history.
“At the moment it is fantastic, but we will see if it is enough to challenge in the next five years.”
