Atletico Madrid: Gelson Martins to go from Montilivi to the operating theatre
Atletico Madrid Set to have operation on nostril
Atletico Madrid winger Gelson Martins returned to the squad list ahead of Wednesday evening’s Copa del Rey tie away to Girona at the Estadi Montilivi, yet the 23-year-old will be in the operating theatre on Thursday as he has an operation on a nostril issue.
Gelson had been suffering with tonsillitis and the hope for Atletico is that this operation, which should see him miss the LaLiga Santander fixture against Levante on Sunday, will be the last time that the former Sporting CP man misses time this season.
Since his time in Portugal, Gelson has suffered with respiratory difficulties due to a deviated septum, something that has diminished his level of breathing.
Playing in Madrid does not help due to the dry climate as the Cape Verdean was previously used to the humidity of Lisbon, which has caused him to breathe at 30 percent of his total capacity since arriving in the summer.
The best solution, therefore, is to have this minor operation, though first of all he will join his teammates in travelling to Girona, despite his difficulties.
